Jim Thorpe is your ideal autumn town up in the misty mountains of Pennsylvania. It's known for million dollar houses built in the 1890s and beautiful landscapes hidden in the valley of the Poconos. If you want to escape the snowy buildup of Philadelphia and enjoy it in a more picturesque place, this is where you want to go. Lots of bed and breakfasts with a perfect railroad that will bring you back to the time period you imagine as soon as you walk through the main streets.
The one thing that truly stands out is the architecture of the many buildings that were built up during a period of obvious great wealth that was supplemented by the coal mines in the area. Not only are these buildings amazing looking on the outside but the insides offer even more. With rich history and numerous stories attached to each building, there's also plenty of ghost stories to go around as well.
Even though this place is a great winter escape for those looking to relax while being only a 15 minute drive from many of the local ski resorts, it's probably best enjoyed during the fall. To truly enjoy Jim Thorpe you must go on the local railroad ride or go for a bike ride in the area. Check out local listings for fairs and outdoor activities to try and correspond a trip with something adventurous. Whitewater rafting is quite fun but be sure to sign up for the Class 3 or it'll seem like you're floating down a lake, bored out of your mind. Becareful to not get lured into their mountain biking deals because it's a far cry from any sort of mountain biking. The bike ride is enjoyable with a lovely ride on canal that use to run through the area. The sights you will see on the bike path will remind you of a time once forgotten with little else but nature all around. Waterfalls, streams, and an endless treeline sight will provide a sigh of relief if you're looking for that weekend break.
Either way, for those who are just looking to relax in a sleep mountain town that provides some sort of place to eat and drink, Jim Thorpe is amazing in it's own right. Just a stroll through the main streets and few back alleys are well worth the trip. These sights can easily bring you back to the period of
opulence that provided the town with so much growth. Just be sure to leave your cell phone behind.

The Journey Begins
It's been a while sine I posted anything new but I plan on actually sticking to it this time. My focus will be on numerous activities that I enjoy. I plan on a specific list that I wish to focus on every week day.
Monday- TV/Movie/Music Suggestions/Updates
Tuesday- Workout Tip Tuesday
Wednesday- Eugene's Weekly Wednesday Photo
Thursday- Thursday Pen Drawings
Friday- Fun Friday Travel Spots
Along with random tidbits on Philly sports teams will be thrown in.
Once one specific day starts taking off I will tend to focus more on that day going forward but this is my goal for the year!
Thanks and enjoy!
